GHOST MAN ON THIRD: NIGHT ECHOES, NEON STREETS AND A COLLABORATION ACROSS WORLDS

Some artists arrive quietly. Others show up like a flash of neon in the corner of your eye, subtle at first, then impossible to ignore. Ghost Man On Third belongs firmly to the second category. The project is the creative vision of Ghost Man, a producer from Nürnberg, Germany, who blends shimmering synthpop with emotional storytelling. His new EP Night Echoes features the voice of Steve Flint, a singer from Ames, Iowa, whose tone carries both daylight optimism and midnight tension.

The two met in Ames during one of Ghost Man’s regular outings with his friend Marty. On one of those trips they walked into a small bar where Steve was performing. One conversation later, a spark turned into a collaboration that now defines the sound of Night Echoes.

The way they tell it, the whole thing feels strangely natural, like two artists who simply took the long way around to find each other.

I sat down with Ghost Man and Steve to talk about the EP, the emotional landscapes behind it and the long journey they took to bring this vision to life.

CASEY RIVERS

Let’s start at the beginning. How did this collaboration come to life?

GHOST MAN

Marty and I were spending some time in Ames, checking out the whole 1984 vibe. We like exploring places that aren’t exactly on the usual route. We walked into this small bar and Steve was on stage. His voice had this mix of clarity and vulnerability that hit me right away. I knew he was the missing piece for the songs I had in my head.

STEVE FLINT

He came up to me after the show with this energy like he had just connected a puzzle piece he didn’t know he was missing. He talked about melodies, moods and this idea of a sound that felt familiar but new. A week later he showed up again with a demo cassette. I listened to it and thought, alright, this guy hears the world differently.

CASEY RIVERS

You call your sound The New 80s. What does that mean?

GHOST MAN

It’s the 80s we imagine when we think back, not just the ones we’re living in. Big synths, bold hooks, emotional depth. But also a modern clarity, a sense of space, a punch that comes from a wider perspective. It’s nostalgia, but sharpened.

STEVE FLINT

It’s like hearing the decade through a lens that hasn’t been invented yet. Familiar, but elevated.

CASEY RIVERS

Let’s talk about Night Echoes. What’s the concept behind the EP?

GHOST MAN

The EP is built around the idea of a city as an emotional mirror. During the day everything feels open and full of possibility. At night the same streets can feel heavy, uncertain, even threatening. The echoes are the emotional reflections bouncing back at you. Love, fear, hope, doubt. All of it.

STEVE FLINT

When I recorded the vocals, I imagined walking through my hometown at different hours. The same street can feel like a friend or a stranger depending on what’s going on inside you. That duality is all over the EP.

CASEY RIVERS

The EP has six tracks, all synthpop, all very melodic. What ties them together musically?

GHOST MAN

Melody is the anchor. Every track has a hook that stays with you, but each one explores a different emotional moment. Some songs feel like sunlight on concrete. Others feel like the moment you realize the night is deeper than you thought.

STEVE FLINT

And vocally we wanted each track to feel like a different streetlight. Same city, different glow.

CASEY RIVERS

Your collaboration seems unusually seamless. What’s your creative dynamic like?

GHOST MAN

We balance each other. I’m more structured. I hear the architecture of a song before it exists. Steve brings instinct, emotion and this ability to turn a melody into a moment.

STEVE FLINT

When it came time to record the vocals, Ghost Man told me he wanted to take me somewhere special. So we headed back to 2026 together and ended up at this studio run by his friend Simon. The place looked like it was built for sounds that hadn’t even been imagined yet. Everything felt clean and futuristic in a way I couldn’t quite explain, but nobody acted like it was unusual.

There’s been talk that some major artists have heard early versions of the EP.

GHOST MAN

Let’s just say the right people have listened. And some reactions were surprising in the best way.

STEVE FLINT

When someone at that level reacts with genuine amazement, you know you’re onto something.

CASEY RIVERS

What do you hope listeners feel when they hear Night Echoes?

GHOST MAN

I want them to feel like the music is walking beside them. Through daylight confidence and nighttime uncertainty. The EP is a journey through emotional weather.

STEVE FLINT

And I hope they feel understood. Whatever they’re going through, the echoes are theirs, but they’re not alone in them.
